Get elevated bar fare for carnivores and vegetarians at Biloxi brewery’s new food truck
Fly Lama Brewing has opened its own food truck right outside the building in downtown Biloxi, and the Sun Herald staff tried it together this week during a team outing.
Hungry Llama has a simple but elevated bar food menu that includes a customizeable smash burger served on a sweet bun. For vegetarians and vegans, the food truck also offers an Impossible patty.
Burgers can be topped with bacon and beer cheese and you can get your onions caramelized if you so choose.
The burger and loaded waffle fries paired amazing with Fly Llama brewery’s muscadine seltzer. The burger was thin and seasoned to perfection, and I think American cheese is the superior option. The beer cheese on the loaded fries really made the dish stand out from other restaurants that also serve it. The sauce was rich and full of flavor and complimented the smoky bacon on top of the crispy potatoes.
Hungry Llama also serves wings, pulled pork and regular or loaded onion rings. They blend nostalgic malts in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry for $5. Two Sun Herald reporters tried the chocolate malt and said they were just right.
The atmosphere at Fly Llama is welcoming. The bar staff is friendly and helpful and will let you sample any beer or seltzer you’d like before making your final selection. Two reporters tried the Apple Pie seltzer and said it was sweet with a cinnamon spice kick at the end. There are games inside the brewery and large picnic tables outside near the food truck.
If you try Hungry Llama, be sure to bring a group of friends with you. And don’t forget to tip your servers and bartenders — they deserve it!
