This local, Black-owned coffee shop has my favorite fall drinks on the Mississippi Coast

A warm pumpkin spice latte when the leaves start to turn orange and the weather starts to fall below 70 degrees will make anyone excited for fall.

People around South Mississippi are looking for seasonal fall drinks to sip on during the harvest. Instead of swinging by Starbucks, which isn’t a bad choice, take the drive to Jackson County and visit my favorite local spot, a Black-owned coffee shop in Gautier.

Delo’s Heavenly House of Coffee is open six days a week and serves breakfast, lunch, coffee, pastries and homemade sandwiches. Owner Delorise Nettles has been running Delo’s, which also has a location in Pascagoula, for 15 years and it’s a staple business in Gautier.

Known for giving back to the community, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College students can enjoy a 10% discount as well.

I went to Delo’s recently to try their fall drink menu, which has eight delicious options, including:

  • Pumpkin Spice Vanilla Chai, a Delo’s vanilla chai with pumpkin spices syrup
  • Cinnamon Roll Latte, an espresso and milk drink with vanilla syrup, brown sugar and cinnamon
  • White pumpkin, a pumpkin spice latte with white chocolate sauce

I tried the Alice in Fall drink with warm caramel, white chocolate sauce and maple spice syrup. The latte can come iced, hot or frozen. The drink, a unique take on their year-long “Alice” beverage, was the perfect coffee for fall weather.

If you’ve never been to Delo’s, make the drive for breakfast or lunch. You will love it just as much as I do.
