4 Coast kitchens cited in restaurant inspections, 2 of them for bugs, rodents or animals
Three fast food restaurants and a nursing home kitchen were cited by Mississippi State Department of Health inspectors for critical violations over the last two weeks.
They are:
Burger King, 310 East Beach Blvd., Long Beach had a scheduled inspection Sept. 29. It was cited for:
- Insects, rodents or animals present
- Not having last inspection report posted
Corrected during the inspection were:
- Hands clean and properly washed
- Food contact surface cleaned and sanitized
A follow-up inspection on Oct. 3 resulted in a B after all violations were corrected.
This is the first C dating back to 2017.
Subway at 1001 Broad Ave., Gulfport was inspected Sept. 19 for a permit and was given a B. Proper cold holding temperatures was corrected during the inspection.
The inspector returned Oct. 4 for a corrective follow-up inspection and the kitchen got a C for not having its last inspection posted.
Insects, rodents or animals present was corrected during the inspection.
This is the third C dating back to 2009
Burger King at 699 U.S. 90, Bay St. Louis had a scheduled inspection Oct. 11 and was cited for:
- No certified manager, a repeat offense
- Not posting previous inspection report
This was the second C dating back to 2017
The Pillars, a nursing home at 2279 Atkinson Road, Biloxi, was inspected Oct. 11 for a permit and was given a C. The violations were:
- Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible
- Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized
Both were repeat violations
This was the second C dating back to 2011. The previous C was in 2018.
Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if violations are corrected during the inspection, and “C” if the violations are critical.
Since Sept. 29, health department inspectors gave 130 As and 23 Bs to restaurants and kitchens in South Mississippi.
