This new, colorful Black-owned restaurant is a hidden gem in D’Iberville

A new Black-owned restaurant in D’Iberville is selling Southern staples and soul food with an upbeat atmosphere.

Dasmond Kirkland, born and raised in Gautier, opened Osok’s Coastal Brasserie, 9994 Rodriguez Street, on July 23.

Kirkland said growing up in the Deep South solidified his passion for cooking.

“I enjoy the challenges of cooking competitions and being able to mix and match different spices and seasonings to create tasty flavors,” he said.

I had a meal at Osok’s last week and was met with colorful lights, upbeat music and many TVs on inside.

Their menu offers Southern party and soul food ranging from a Big Mouth Burger to loaded fries to Kirkland’s famous chicken and waffles.

With his daughter being his biggest motivation, Dasmond opened up Osok’s Coastal Brasserie.

I tried the signature burger special with wings and fries, and I would highly recommend it.

Their full menu and hours of operation are included on their Facebook page.
