The best grilled cheese on the Mississippi Coast is at this new Gulfport restaurant
If there is macaroni and cheese on a restaurant menu, I’m ordering it.
Whether it’s at a fine dining restaurant (I love the macaroni and cheese at Field’s in Bay St. Louis and White Pillars in Biloxi) or at a barbecue restaurant or dive bar, I find it to be the perfect Southern staple.
Part of why mac and cheese is so amazing is because of it’s versatility. That’s why I was so excited when my best friend, DeRae, asked if I wanted to join her for lunch at I Heart Mac and Cheese.
The new restaurant on Pass Road is a mac and cheese lover’s dream. You can get it in a bowl or go pasta-less and get a base of cauliflower or broccoli.
My mouth began to water while looking over the menu, and I knew I had found the perfect meal when I saw the grilled cheese options. I decided to order the Best of Both Words, an elevated grilled cheese with short rib, barbecue sauce and macaroni and cheese in between buttered sourdough bread.
DeRae went with the buffalo blue cheese mac and cheese bowl that had carrots and celery inside.
The two of us split our meals, and I can honestly say I’ve never had a better grilled cheese sandwich. It was sweet, smoky and creamy all at the same time, and it came with a small tomato soup. I opted to do a meal deal and got fried mac and cheese as my side. Pro tip: Do it. Treat yourself.
If you love cheese, pasta and sandwiches, the Best of Both Worlds is the meal for you. It’s rich and decadent and more than enough for two, and it’s the best grilled cheese I have ever had on the Coast.
