This new space-themed breakfast restaurant in Bay St. Louis is out of this world

To put it mildly, I’m a breakfast person.

I can eat it in the morning, at lunch and with my friends for Sunday brunch.

I often find myself dining alone at dinnertime at Waffle House. Their cheese ‘n eggs are the best, and sorry, your grandma’s aren’t better.

There aren’t many options for breakfast on the Coast, and my friends and I have been to all of them. So I was super excited to try the newest breakfast spot in the heart of downtown Bay St. Louis.

I woke up extra early (for me) at 7 a.m. Thursday and drove to Cosmos, a space-themed restaurant serving modern breakfast delights, New Orleans beignets with a twist and even unique lunch sandwiches.

Cosmos is attached to the Coastal modern Pearl Hotel, but the menu is the polar opposite of a typical continental hotel breakfast.

For starters, you can get a coffee (served in mismatched mugs), a latte, a bloody mary, mimosa or daiquiri if you’re feeling fancy.

The menu is unique and cool enough to match the modern but comfortable seating. There are old-school video game boxes and a space-themed mural that drips orange juice.

My server listed the top sellers and said they’re all delicious in their own way:

  • The most popular menu item is the breakfast burrito, which is house-made sausage, cheddar, ancho sour cream, scrambled eggs, pico de gallo and avocado rolled into a delicious sandwich.
  • Guests rave about the blue crab omelet with fresh crab meat and a house-made Hollandaise.
  • The breaky bowl is a bed of hash browns topped with breakfast sausage, peppers and onions and Hollandaise.

I decided to try to Bananas Foster pancakes ($11) and a side of deli ham ($2.50). The pancakes were giving serious Cracker Barrel vibes. The sides were crispy and the center was fluffy and moist. The fresh bananas and caramel sauce complimented the pancakes well, and I couldn’t finish the stack. The ham was thin-cut and a perfect salty addition.

Cosmos is small and intimate, but the vibe is so fun. It’s busy on the weekends, so if you want a casual breakfast or brunch, I suggest going during the week. 10/10 would recommend.
