5 MS Coast restaurants cited by health dept. for violations. 3 had bugs or rodents.
It’s that time of year when violations for insects, rodents or animals show up on the restaurant inspection reports in South Mississippi.
Three of the five restaurants given a “C” grade for critical violations by Mississippi Health Department inspectors since July 1 were cited for that charge.
The five South Mississippi restaurants that scored a “C” from the health department this month are:
Kreamy Donuts, 1101 A Broad Ave. in Gulfport, was inspected July 19 following a complaint. The restaurant was cited for:
- Insects, rodents or animals present
- Food not in good condition, safe and unadulterated
- Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized
This is the first C at the kitchen dating back to 2018.
Pearlington Bayou Grocery, Deli & Restaurant, 5364 Mississippi 604, Pearlington, was inspected July 12 for a permit. The facility was cited for:
- Insects, rodents or animals present
No certified manager
- Plumbing not installed with proper backflow devices
- Sewage waste water not properly disposed
The kitchen was inspected again on July 18 and scored a B when all violations were corrected. This was the first C dating back to 2020.
Bar at El Saltillo, 2650 Beach Blvd., Biloxi, was inspected July 14 and was cited for insects, rodents or animals present. This was the first C dating back to 2018.
Yamato Steak House, 12131 Old Highway 63 South, Lucedale, had no certified manager when the inspector arrived July 7 for a permit renewal.
Five other violations were corrected during the inspection:
- Improper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use
- Hands not clean and properly washed
- Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible
- Food not separated and protected
This was the first C dating back to 2019.
Waffle House, 11967 Bobby Eleuterius Blvd., D’Iberville. had a scheduled inspection July 18 and was cited for having no certified manager. The same violation got the restaurant a C in January 2022 and in December 2020.
This is the restaurant’s fifth C since 2017.
At a follow-up inspection on July 21, the violation was corrected and the restaurant scored a B.
Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if violations are corrected during the inspection, and “C” if the violations are critical.
Since July 1, health inspectors gave 204 A’s and 24 B’s to restaurants and kitchens in South Mississippi.
