New downtown Biloxi spot feels like an old-time diner, but the menu has delicious twist
Old City Coffee Company in Biloxi has only been open a few weeks, but owners and sisters, Ella and Desirae Edwards, have big plans for this little spot.
It is petite in every way — from the small breakfast and lunch menu, to just a few tables and chairs in the dining area — but it has a certain charm that makes this place unique.
The Edwards sisters also have a goal: To “do good and spread joy,” the shop’s Facebook page says. It is a charming sentiment, isn’t it? We can always use a new café on the Coast, but to have a new addition that is also all about doing good in the community is very cool.
Old City Coffee Company is located just across the street from the Food Giant grocery store and the Biloxi fire and police departments. There is lots of parking and plenty of foot and car traffic around the new restaurant. The business model is not only a café that serves breakfast and lunch, but a community-oriented business that responds to local needs and provides learning opportunities and a healthy and respectful environment for everyone.
The menu will expand as the business grows, but for now it is limited a few Southern favorites like the delicious homemade pimento and cheese sandwich, which is about as classic Southern as you can get. I tried the turkey club sandwich, and it was well filled and the perfect size lunch for me. There is also an interestingly named burrito, the 3 p.m. burrito, filled with bacon, egg, sausage, cheese, banana peppers and tomato. It’s topped with a spicy garlic aioli, and it is delicious and filling.
If you are coming in for breakfast, check out the muffins and cookies on the countertop. The menu offers a good-looking sausage and cheese muffin, a ham egg and cheese croissant and a breakfast burrito and almost a dozen coffee options.
The Old City Coffee Company is as cozy and welcoming a cafe as can be found anywhere on the Coast. If feels like a small-town diner should, very friendly and pleasant. The food has that homemade touch, and the service is family friendly.
