Coast donut shop, daiquiri bar among 4 cited by MS health dept. in restaurant inspections

Four South Mississippi kitchens were cited for critical health violations over the past three weeks as finding and keeping keeping certified managers continues to be an issue.

Sandbar Daiquiri Bar & Grill at 835 Vieux Marche, Biloxi, was cited March 31 for not having a certified manager and for the same violation on April 8 during a follow-up inspection. All violations were corrected when the health inspector returned on April 13 and the restaurant was given a B.

The only other C at the restaurant was in 2021.

Dunkin Donuts at 11181 U.S. 49, Gulfport was inspected April 14 for a permit. It was cited for not having a certified manager and for inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible, a repeat offense.

This was the first C at the doughnut shop dating back to 2018.

A follow-up inspection on April 21 resulted in a B, when all violations were corrected.

El Potrillo Taqueria & Restaurant, 1711 Pass Road in Biloxi was inspected April 26 for a permit. The restaurant was cited for having no certified manager.

Six violations corrected during the inspection:

  • food not separated and protected
  • food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized
  • improper hot holding temperatures
  • improper cold holding temperature
  • improper date marking
  • disposition and toxic substance not properly identified, stored and used.

The restaurant was inspected once before and got an A in March 2021.

Eva’s Place, a nursing home at 258 Vestry Road, Perkinston, was inspected April 29 for a permit and was cited for sewage waste water not properly disposed, a repeat offense.

The only other C dating back to 2014 was in 2021.

Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if violations are corrected during the inspection, and “C” if the violations are critical.

Since April 7, inspectors gave 223 restaurants and kitchens in South Mississippi an A and 23 a B, in addition to these four Cs.
