Coast brunch restaurant, two delis cited by health department for critical violations
Three food establishments on the Coast were cited by Mississippi Department of Health for critical violations since March 15.
Brick & Spoon, 140 Eisenhower Drive, Biloxi, had a scheduled inspection Feb. 28. The inspector cited the restaurant for toxic substance not properly identified, stored or used.
The restaurant also was cited for three repeat offenses: improper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use, inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible and food contact surface cleaned and sanitized.
The was the first C for the restaurant.
Sai Country Store fast food and deli at 12431 Mississippi 67, Biloxi, was inspected March 2 during a scheduled visit. It was cited for not having a certified manager and for sewage waste water not properly disposed.
Corrected during the inspection were proper cold holding temperatures and adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible
This is the store’s first C since 2019.
Schaffer’s Grocery, 7180 Lakeshore Road, Bay St. Louis, had a scheduled inspection Feb. 15. It was cited for not having food separated and protected.
This was the first C since 2019. A follow-up inspection on Feb. 24 showed all violations were corrected and the store scored a B.
Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if violations are corrected during the inspection, and “C” if the violations are critical.
Since Feb. 15, inspectors have given 166 As to restaurants in South Mississippi and 20 Bs, in addition to these three Cs.
