3 Gulfport restaurants fail health inspection, one for rodents, insects or animals present

Three restaurants in Gulfport got a C score from the Mississippi State Department of Health for critical health violations in the first eight days of February, after only four restaurants in South Mississippi were cited over the last two months.

Metro Wing at 157 Hardy Court Shopping Center, was inspected Feb. 2 following a complaint.

Health department inspectors cited the restaurant in four categories:

  • not having food contact surface cleaned and sanitized
  • inspects, rodents or animals present
  • toilet facilities not properly constructed, supplied or cleaned
  • last inspection permit not posted

The last C for the restaurant was in 2019.

Rock N Roll Sushi at 1427 25th Ave., Gulfport, was inspected Feb. 7 for a permit and was cited in three categories:

  • inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible
  • food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized
  • last inspection permit not posted

Corrected during the inspection were toxic substance property identified, stored and used and not keeping records of time as public health control procedures, which is required to keep ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous food to be at 41°F or less before it is removed from temperature control. These were both repeat offenses.

This was the first C for the restaurant

Coastline Caribbean Restaurant at 3205 Hewes Ave., Gulfport, was inspected Feb. 8 for a permit and was cited for inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible. This was the first C dating back to 2015.

Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if violations are corrected during the inspection, and “C” if the violations are critical.

In the first week of February, 76 restaurants in South Mississippi scored an A from the health department, and 12 others scored a B.
