A Coast bakery teams up with Marble Slab for king cake ice cream. Move over, Blue Bell.

Move over, Blue Bell.

There’s a new option for wildly popular king cake ice cream on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and it’s made right here in South Mississippi.

Marble Slab stores in two Coast cities, owned by Jeffrey Mayeux, are making small batches of custom king cake ice cream.

Quality Bakery in downtown Gulfport is supplying the king cake. The shop has been in business for decades and is a local favorite.

The Mardi Gras concoction is made with a base of cinnamon vanilla ice cream. Quality Baker’s king cake and an Oreo icing swirl are mixed in, Mayeux said.

The ice cream is being sold by the pint and is available for a limited time. The first batch sold out quickly, Mayeux said.

The ice cream is available at Quality Bakery and at Marble Slab locations in the Crossroads shopping center off U.S. 49 in Gulfport and on Sangani Blvd. in D’Iberville.

Restaurant foot traffic in both Gulfport and D’Iberville has grown in 2021 after the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
