Four MS Coast restaurants cited for violations in latest health department inspections

Four restaurants in South Mississippi were cited for critical health violations in January, two of them for not having a certified manager.

That violation has been an issue during the pandemic as restaurants have trouble hiring and keeping staff.

Restaurants that were cited by Mississippi Health Department inspectors are:

Petra Cafe at Edgewater Mall, 2600 Beach Blvd., Biloxi, had a first scheduled inspection on Jan. 19. The restaurant was given a B when three issues were corrected during the inspection: having a certified manager, adequate hand-washing facilities supplied and accessible and food contact surface cleaned and sanitized.

Another scheduled inspection was performed Jan. 31 and the inspector gave a C for no certified manager and also food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized, a repeat offense.

This is the first C at the restaurant dating back to 2020.

Waffle House at 11967 Bobby Eleuterius Blvd., D’Iberville, was inspected Jan. 12 for a permit and was cited for no certified manager. The last permit inspection report was not posted, but that was corrected during the review.

The inspector returned a day later on Jan. 13 and gave the restaurant a B for having all violations corrected.

The last C was issued in December 2020 for no certified manager.

Kentucky Fried Chicken at 947 Cedar Lake Road, Biloxi was inspected Jan. 12 for a permit. It was cited for not having adequate hand-washing facilities supplied and accessible, a repeat offense.

When inspected again on Jan. 13, the issue was corrected and the restaurant was given a B.

This is the fourth C dating back to 2012.

Taco Bell at 10569 D’Iberville Road in D’Iberville was Inspected Jan. 18 for a permit. It was cited for improper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use, a repeat offense, and also for not having the last inspection permit posted.

During a follow-up inspection on Jan. 26, the restaurant got a B when all issues were corrected.

This was the first C dating back to Health Department records starting in 2018.

Since Jan. 1, Mississippi Health Department inspectors gave South Mississippi restaurants 297 As, 29 Bs and 4 Cs.

Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if violations are corrected during the inspection, and “C” if the violations are critical.
