Here’s where to get a free Thanksgiving dinner on the Coast, and how to help others

Free Thanksgiving dinners will be served in South Mississippi for those in need or those who have no family to share the holiday.

Among the dinners are:

Wednesday, Nov. 24 — Thanksgiving Dinner for the homeless and needy from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Feed My Sheep Soup Kitchen, 2615 19th St., Gulfport. Feed My Sheep will be closed Thursday and Friday. Thursday, Nov. 25 — The 36th Kelly Family Thanksgiving Dinner is free and open to everyone. Served from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Bay St. Louis Community Hall, 301 Blaize Ave. Those who want to volunteer or donate should call Julie Massengill at 228-223-4064. Thursday, Nov. 25 — The 7th annual Fat Bottom BBQ (previously known as Slap Ya Momma’s BBQ) free Thanksgiving meal for anyone in need, whether military, a veteran, first-responder or someone who needs family for a day. Serving 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the restaurant on U.S. 90 in Biloxi. Donations will be accepted and the staff will be selling Family For A Day T-shirts, with all proceeds used to purchase Christmas gifts for local children’s homes. Volunteers should contact Kailee at kailee@fatbottombarbeque.com.

Holiday food drives

Through Dec. 13 — Feed the Needy is a collaboration between police departments in Harrison County and is funded by donations to feed those in need. The deadline has passed for registering for Thanksgiving dinner. Deadline for Christmas food orders is 9 a.m. on Dec. 13. Sponsoring agencies are Biloxi Police, D’Iberville Police, Gulfport Police, Harrison County Sheriff Department, Long Beach Police and Pass Christian Police. To make a donation, call Gulfport police, 228-868-5703. Donations also can be mailed to Gulf Coast Law Enforcement Feed the Needy, 2220 15th St., Gulfport, MS 39501.

Now until Christmas — Order pumpkin spice latte loaf with espresso buttercream icing from Rum Kitchen, 524 U.S. 90 in Waveland, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit The King’s Kitchen in Bay St. Louis.

Through Christmas week — Waitr food delivery service has partnered with local restaurants to launch a local food drive to help feed families in need this Holiday season. Waitr will collect non-perishable food donations at these area restaurants: Newk’s Eatery at 10381 Old Highway 49, Gulfport and 3883 Promenade Parkway, D’Iberville; Boogies Grill & Chill, 2650 Beach Blvd., Biloxi; Skeeters Bar & Grill, 197 Tegarden Road, Gulfport; Long Beach Market & Deli, 20110 Pineville Road, Long Beach, and Layla’s Coffeehouse & Eatery, 2079 E Pass Road, Gulfport. Those dropping off food will receive a coupon for a free delivery with Waitr the next time they use the service. Waitr will deliver the collected food to Feeding the Gulf Coast. Cash donations also can be made on the Waitr app.
