Restaurant News & Reviews

Popular Coast barbecue restaurant is known for its name. Here’s why it’s changing.

Restaurant Row in Biloxi has a new sign on a favorite barbecue restaurant.

On Thursday, Slap Ya Momma’s became Fat Bottom BBQ, with the same owners and menu.

The name was changed because of the trademark with Slap Ya Mama seasoning in Louisiana, said Kailee Yawn, marketing manager for Fat Bottom. They waited until after Cruisin’ The Coast to avoid confusion.

The restaurant opened in 2009 in Wiggins, moved in 2011 to Biloxi and opened in 2018 at its present location at 1785 Beach Blvd.

She said they considered several names before settling on Fat Bottom BBQ.

“The owners wanted to keep something a little spunky,” she said.

Now the restaurant can sell its own dry ribs and barbecue sauce again under the Fat Bottom brand, she said.
