South MS restaurant fails health inspection for 2nd time in year over same reason

A South Mississippi restaurant cited last September for bugs, rodents or animals present has failed its latest inspection for the same reason.

Dixie Depot at 6241 Mississippi 613 in Lucedale had a scheduled Inspection Aug. 13. It was cited by the Mississippi Health Department for having no certified manager and for having Insects, rodents or animals present.

In September 2019, the restaurant had three violations, one of which was for having bugs, rodents or animals present. Customers who ate at the restaurant in August 2019 were notified that they potentially were exposed to hepatitis A through an employee and were offered free vaccinations.

Dixie Depot had one other C in 2016.

Two Jackson County restaurants also were cited by health department inspectors this month.

Fast Trac at 934 Denny Ave. in Pascagoula was inspected Aug. 14 and given its first C dating back to 2008 for not having a certified manager for its deli, bakery and coffee shop.

Tugus Family Restaurant at 6909 Mississippi 613 in Moss Point was inspected for a permit renewal Aug. 21. This restaurant also was cited for not having a certified manager. This is the first C since 2014.

Restaurants and other food service establishments are rated A if they pass the Health Department inspection, B if violations are corrected during the inspection, and C if the violations are critical.
