New MS Coast food truck started by 2 brothers has ‘giant burritos with a twist’

I think that there is only one way to describe The GB Station food truck, and that is fun.

The business model is fun, the owners fall into the same category, and the food? You guessed it, just plain fun.

Imagine two brothers, just out of college, armed only with business degrees and an entrepreneurial spirit. Investing money in a brick-and-mortar restaurant was out of the question, but, hey, what about a food truck? That couldn’t be too expensive, could it?

Well, it was pretty expensive, once properly outfitted with stoves, ovens, a three-compartment sink and everything else a kitchen needs, but Gabe and Noah Ahlers figured it out.

But coming up with the idea and figuring out how to pay for it was not the true genius of this business. Gabe described it as “Two broke kids with a dream,” and the dream was a food idea that they modeled on what they had seen in college towns all over the South.

College kids don’t have a lot of money or a lot of time in between classes. They need to get a quick bite, it has to be hand portable, it has to be a lot of food for a young appetite, and it has to be crazy good.

GB Station fulfills all those demands. What could be better than a giant burrito, stuffed with all kinds of wild and wonderful combinations?

Perhaps you think that in my enthusiasm for GB Station I am exaggerating just a bit? Well, what would you think of a red beans and rice burrito, fortified with sausage and chicken tenders? What about pulled pork and mac and cheese, or spaghetti and meatballs with lots of mozzarella, shrimp Alfredo burrito? They are also working on a breakfast burrito made with a pancake wrap!

The bestseller of all time is the Hibachi GB, made with steak or chicken, fried rice, grilled onions and yum yum sauce. It is so popular they have sold as many as 100 in just one hour.

The next bestseller is the Burger GB, made with meat, cheese, grilled onions, mayo and ketchup. I hate to admit it, but I tried both of these GBs when I visited the truck, parked outside a Dollar General Store in the Kiln, and they were delicious and huge.

I got there 30 minutes before they were to open, and already people were lining up. And who would not mind standing in a line for a delicious, huge, and very creative burrito, especially when it only costs $8. No kidding! If you want the combo, a GB, side, and drink, it’s going to set you back $10. Dinner for $10? That is crazy!

The menu is small and changes often. There is always a GB of the day, and two other choices, most often the Hibachi and the burger, but don’t worry, you can’t go wrong, they are all delicious.

The location of the truck varies, but Gabe and Noah post the menu, location, and time on Facebook every day.
