Popular Coast restaurants, pizza buffet cited for violations by health department

Four Coast food providers failed their health inspections in the last week, most of them for sanitary issues.

Mississippi Health Department inspectors gave these restaurants a C for critical violations:

Sicily’s Italian Buffet, 11010 U.S. 49, Gulfport, had a scheduled inspection Feb. 6 and was cited for not having adequate hand washing facilities supplies and accessible, a repeat offense. Corrected during the inspection was toxic substance properly identified, stored and used.

It was reinspected Wednesday and scored a B after the issue with hand washing facilities was corrected during the inspection. The restaurant has had no other Cs dating back to 2012.

Shaggy’s Gulfport Restaurant, 1724 East Beach Blvd., Gulfport, was inspected Feb. 6 following a complaint, and was given a C for not having food surface cleaned and sanitized. The inspector returned the following day and gave the restaurant an A for no violations. This was the restaurant’s only C dating back to 2016.

The Ole Biloxi Fillin Station, 692 Howard Ave., Biloxi, got its first C since 2017 following an inspection Tuesday for a permit renewal. The restaurant was out of compliance for adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible. Corrected during the inspection were food separated and protected and for proper date marking and disposition.

RaceTrac #2497, a fuel and convenience store at 7015 Washington Ave., Ocean Springs, was inspected Feb. 7 for a permit and was cited for not having a certified manager. Corrected during the inspection was proper hot holding temperatures. The only other inspection reported by the Health Department was an A in 2018.

Restaurants and other food service establishments are rated A if they pass the Health Department inspection, B if violations are corrected during the inspection, and C if the violations are critical.
