A downtown Biloxi restaurant is closing its doors, owner announces on Facebook
He restored the old Creole cottage on Howard Avenue, along where the trolley once ran, and opened in 2017 with a vision of creating a restaurant that would draw the neighborhood together.
But on Monday morning, owner Curtis Schmitt announced on Facebook that he is closing Southport Line Poor Boys.
“It is with a heavy heart that this will be the last day that Southport Line will be open,” he said in the post.
He thanked the community and said, “We’re very proud with what we accomplished over the years including culinary, restoration and mixology awards.”
Schmitt didn’t specify why he is closing the restaurant but did say, “I have chosen a different path in life and the time to move on and follow my heart has come.”
As of 2 p.m. Monday, the restaurant had closed.
Southport Line’s Facebook page also assured customers that both neighborhood cats who frequented the patio, Moo and Bacon, will go to a good home.
When he opened the restaurant, Schmitt said,” “I want to be the neighborhood place to go and eat and meet friends.”
The restaurant was decorated with pictures and memorabilia from Old Biloxi and was known for its weekly trivia game.
