As more food trucks come to the Coast, these Angus and Kobe beef burgers are ‘killer good’
The food truck scene on the Coast is fluid.
The public has embraced the idea, although some cities have not, which is a pity.
In the not-too-distant past, there were no food trucks at all, but now their numbers continue to grow. Ocean Springs is in the lead, with a handful of trucks to choose from, some are mobile and move from spot to spot, others are permanently parked at good locations.
Burger Box is the latest addition in Ocean Springs, with a great location on Government Street and a menu that is just right for the entertainment district.
It is also a family-run business, and they describe themselves by saying “We are dedicated to making you feel at home while you’re eating out. Fast, friendly service is all part of the Burger Box experience.” I like that, I like that a lot.
The menu is mostly about burgers, and I can assure they are killer good. There are nine to choose from, and include Angus and Kobe beef, so you know right up front this place is all about quality. Technique and innovative combinations can only get you so far; add to that best quality ingredients, and you’ve got a winner on your hands.
I tried the Classic Burger, which is made with Angus beef, and all the classic toppings, and enjoyed it immensely. The quality of the beef is the first thing that you will notice, absolutely delicious!
I also sampled the Crunchy Chicken sandwich, and if you are not in the mood for a burger, this would be a good choice.
Other burger choices include the Blackjack, which is Kobe beef, along with jalapeno bacon (loved it) pepper jack cheese, roasted jalapenos, tomatoes, lettuce and pickles. If you like a little spice in your life, this is the way to go.
Other toppings that caught my eye were the green chili aioli on the verde aioli, and the garlic herb mayo on the Mushroom Burger.
I am also a fan of a great hot dog, something far too places on the Coast offer and Burger Box has four to choose from. Somehow Southerners have gotten the idea that hot dogs are just for kids, and what a gastronomic mistake that is. A good hot dog is a thing of great wonder.
Check out the Uncle Frank dog, with bacon, cheese, caramelized onions, tomato, relish, ketchup, mayo and a dipping sauce.
Speaking of dipping sauces, there are five sides at the Burger Box, including sweet potato fries, fried pickles (fabulous!) and bacon-parm fries, and nine— yes, I said nine — truly fabulous dipping sauces. Green chili aioli, jalapeno ranch and garlic aioli are my top picks, but all are worth a try.
Burger Box is a great choice when you are not looking for a sit-down meal. The food is prepared with great attention to detail, the combinations are imaginative, and there is just the right amount of spice when you are in the mood for something with a little kick to it.
But don’t forget to try the hot dogs, you just might become a convert!
