A new coffee shop — and traffic lights — are coming to a busy D’Iberville intersection

One of D’Iberville’s newest franchise retailers is getting closer to brewing its first pot of hot coffee.

Crews on Monday installed electric signs for PJ’s Coffee of New Orleans outside of a new location that will open just in time for the holidays.

Owner David LeBron expects to have a soft opening as early as Thanksgiving Day and a grand opening celebration Christmas week.

“If we aren’t open by Thursday, we’ll certainly have the rest of this busy holiday weekend covered,” LeBron said.

The D’Iberville site is the second free-standing PJ’s Coffee LeBron will open on the Coast. He opened PJ’s in Latimer on Cook Road in May. That shop is just north of Exit 50 off Interstate 10.

The D’Iberville shop is being built on the busy corner of D’Iberville Boulevard at Boney Avenue.

A building that once housed an Indy’s Hamburgers was demolished to make way for the newly-constructed PJ’s, which will feature a double drive-thru and an interior dining option.

The busy intersection — just west of the I-110 overpass — has recently seen an increase in retailers, including a vape shop and a spa and salon.

City leaders are working with Lamey Electric on a $138,000 contract to install traffic signals to provide a safer commute for drivers entering and exiting Boney Ave.

“We were advised last week that the signal posts were on back order and wouldn’t be in until the first week of January,” said D’Iberville City Manager Clay Jones.

Lamey Electric officials said the traffic signals should be operating by mid-February.

Jones also confirmed the city has granted PJ’s a temporary certificate of occupancy to begin training their employees.

Applications for job positions at the D’Iberville store are being accepted on the company’s website https://www.pjscoffee.com/careers/.
