Biscuits. Cocktails. Free Cane’s sauce. Check out these unique Mardi Gras treats on the Coast.
King cake is so good, and so temporary, and this year it has rivals for most delicious way to celebrate Carnival on the Coast.
Like pumpkin spice in the fall, king cake is becoming a seasonal flavor found in biscuits, coffee and other treats.
Here is a list of some alternative tastes to try for Mardi Gras in South Mississippi:
▪ Community Coffee brings back Mardi Gras King Cake blend swirled with cinnamon and vanilla flavors
▪ Raising Cane’s is celebrating the season — and raising money for Coastal Mississippi Mardi Gras Museum in Biloxi — with the restaurant’s signature sauce. “Free Sauce” Doubloons are available at all South Mississippi Raising Cane’s and are redeemable for one Free Raising Cane’s sauce per purchase through Mardi Gras day.
▪ Sip a Mardi Gras cocktail at The Pearl in Bay St. Louis. “Try the Main Street Mambo or Fat Tuesday Fizz,” the social media post invites.
▪ King cake biscuits are a special treat every day at Greenhouse Biloxi. Some days they also have gluten-free king cake and biscuits.
▪ Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar & Restaurant in Biloxi has added a seasonal bushwhacker cocktail to the menu to get South Mississippi in the Mardi Gras spirit. They are made with Cruzan vanilla rum, cinnamon cream rum, and vanilla ice milk and then get a swirl of whipped cream and Mardi Gras sprinkles.
▪ Mardi Gras monkey bread is added to the menu at Jacked Up Coffee Bar on Howard Avenue in Biloxi.
▪ Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort in D’Iberville has a pair of Mardi Gras coffees — king cake frappe’ or moon pie latte’ — to pair with a treat from the pastry case at Lounge Nocherie.
▪ And if you still want king cake, the new Sugar Pop Baking Company in Waveland is making king cakes and some days has them by the slice. Owner Renee Loranger, who opened the shop with her winnings from the Halloween Baking Championship on Food Network, was selected as grand marshal in a Coast Mardi Gras parade.
