Welcome back spring with concerts, campouts
The Coast may see a little more rain amid this week's long-awaited sunny days, so grab an umbrella and celebrate spring's official arrival on Sunday by packing away your sweaters and heading outside to enjoy this week's events featuring concerts, campouts and kayaking.
Ease the whole family back into the warmer weather with a leisurely bike ride during Pedal in the Pass at 6 p.m. Thursday. All ages and skill levels are welcome to begin the ride near Scenic Drive in Pass Christian's War Memorial Park, and an optional dutch-treat dinner will follow the ride at a downtown restaurant. Helmets are required to participate. Details: 760-0165.
If you'd rather enjoy all your favorite activities during one outing, don't miss the Family Campout weekend at Beach Park in Pascagoula. Tents go up at noon Saturday before the biking, kayaking, fishing and skating begin, and tents should be taken down by 11 a.m. Sunday. After an exciting day of playing, enjoy an outdoor showing of "The Minions," campfire stories, and s'mores. Dinner and breakfast will be provided, but don't forget to bring your fishing gear and bikes, skates or walking shoes for a morning stroll down Beach Boulevard. Admission is $5 per person, but ages 2 and younger can attend for free. Details/registration: 938-2356.
Also, the Pine Hill Festival opens this weekend and promises to deliver plenty of music, memories and muscle cars during the annual three-day event in downtown Wiggins. Don't miss musical performances by Bond & Elusive Behavior, Double-Dee, the Stone High Jazz Ensemble, Autumn Rise-N, Nouveaux Cajun Express and many others, but local church choirs and praise bands will also take the stage before Gospel Grass Revival closes the festival from 2-3 p.m. Sunday.
Opening from 5-7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, the festival will also feature a car show by the Red Creek Classics Car Club, the Stone County SPCA's annual Mutt Strut, foot races, children's activities, artwork, food and more. Details: 601-928-5418.
