Longtime casino exec Karen Sock will speak to League of Women voters

The Mississippi League of Women Voters will hold its sixth annual Making Democracy Work luncheon at noon Thursday at IP Casino Resort Spa.

Karen Sock, president and CEO of the consulting firm Sock Enterprises, will be the speaker at the luncheon, which is underwritten by IP.

Sock was a hotel/resort and entertainment industry executive at Caesars Entertainment Inc., Harrah's Entertainment Inc. and Grand Casinos Inc. Over 16 years, she held operating positions of increasing responsibilities and was senior vice president and general manager at Grand Casinos in Biloxi and Tunica and at the defunct Margaritaville Casino in Biloxi. She was one of Global Gaming Business Magazine's Top 25 Executives to Watch in 2012.

In 2013, on behalf of Jackson County Civic Action Committee and America's Promise Alliance, Sock developed and helped coordinate the inaugural Pathways2Possibilities, a unique hands-on interactive career-exploration expo that has exposed more than 22,000 eighth-graders and several hundred at-risk youth from the six coastal counties to the many career options available to them.

She also is a guest lecturer for the master's degree program in Human Capital Development at the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park.
