Know your status: USM Gulf Park gives HIV screenings

In just 20 minutes, I filled out paperwork, got pricked for a blood sample, and walked out of the Southern Miss Health Center at the Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach knowing my HIV status.

To celebrate Diversity Week at Southern Miss Gulf Park, the newly-opened center gave out free HIV screenings from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The health center is open every Tuesday and is located in a renovated cottage on Beach Park Place, directly across from campus.

According to its website, the Southern Miss Health Center offers first aid and treats a variety of health problems, including minor illness.

The center also provides preventative screenings.

For now, it's only open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Diversity Week at Southern Miss also offers a variety of panels, screenings and events that celebrates the variety of culture in the Deep South.
