The new ‘Queer Eye’
Netflix’s “Queer Eye” is a reboot of Bravo’s 2003 reality television series and is currently looking to shoot its seventh season. The show features the “Fab 5,” — a culmination of experts in fashion, food, culture, design and grooming — as they help one very deserving individual, or what the “Fab 5” call a “hero,” achieve an improved, happier lifestyle.
“I think the ideal hero is the person who would never see this coming, or a person who would never nominate or submit themselves. That’s the beauty of finding someone on the ground because they or their family probably would never think, ‘Let me write in and nominate them.’ It’s just not on their radar. They’ve never even heard of the show. That’s kind of the ideal person,” said Pamela Vallerelli, Casting Director of Queer Eye.
The show has filmed across the country, in cities such as Atlanta, Kansas City, Philadelphia and Austin — and in a special set of episodes, the crew traveled to Japan. While the show is casting in the Gulf South region, it’s unclear if the next season will be set in New Orleans.
The show is most notably known for its representation and strong support of the LGBTQ community and communities of color. “Queer Eye,” in addition to winning several Emmys, has also won a GLAAD Media Award in 2019 and a Casting Society of America Award in 2021.
