'King and I' will go on at Gulfport Little Theatre

Local actor appears in Hattiesburg production

Ben Salters of Ocean Springs will appear in "Church Basement Ladies: A Second Helping" when Carey Dinner Theatre opens for the 41st season in Hattiesburg. The show, a sequel to last year's popular musical comedy, will run through July 2.

Tickets are $30 and include dinner at 7 p.m. followed by the show and the show.

Florida watercolorist will hold workshop in Gulfport

A watercolor workshop by Florida watercolor artist, instructor and publisher Sharon Long will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Gulfport Galleria of Fine Art.

Long is known for her rich, vivid colors and values that are often mistaken as an oil or acrylic. Her work can be found in several art galleries along the Gulf Coast as well as in corporate offices and private collections worldwide.

Personal instruction is provided with easy-to-follow instructions to help novice and experienced painters. No drawing or sketching experience is needed. Cost: $45 for a half day, and savings are provided with a two-day registration.

Mary C. Center will host summer classes, programs

The Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center, 1600 Government St., Ocean Springs, plans a variety of continuing classes and workshops: Art play, paper dolls, mixed-media painting, altered books, introduction to drawing and painting, self-portrait class, print making for teens, painting and art journaling with children and papier maché birds with Carmen Lugo. Also painting with markers and fingerpaint like an artist with Dustin Porta; cursive writing and calligraphy with Mick Hartsfield; Junior Chef -- Lunch and Learn with Chef Cheri Hiers; beginner, intermediate and advanced sewing with Becky Rutz and Gloria Gaines; creative writing for kids -- haiku with Kristina Mullenix; iPhone-ography with Daniela Ortiz. Natural Responses in Mixed Media at WAMA

Mixed-media artist Dana Finimore will present a Natural Responses in Mixed Media course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 9-10 at the Walter Anderson Museum Art Cottage in Ocean Springs.

Cost is $125 for members $135 for nonmembers.

Materials and supplies are provided. Students may bring extra paper, brushes or their own favorite personal supplies.
