Children coloring contest deadline approaches

The Gulf Marine Education Festival will hold the Second annual Children's Coloring Contest, in conjunction with the Gulf Festival in April.

The competition is open to students in kindergarten through eighth grade and the deadline is Thursday. Participants are asked to submit an original design that depicts the conservation or scenic qualities of Mississippi's coastal resources.

The festival will be held April 2, in conjunction with Art in the Pass. Both festivals will be held at War Memorial Park in Pass Christian. For details and art submission rules, contact Jessica Rankin at Jessica.rankin@dmr.ms.gov or 374-5000.

MGCCC Jefferson Davis will show alumni art

"An Alumni Exhibit -- Fifty Years of Fine Art" will host an artists' reception on Thursday at noon at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Jefferson Davis Campus, 2226 Switzer Road in Gulfport. The exhibit includes alumni Jefferson Davis' art students and faculty members who work in a variety of artistic media, including painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, photography and digital art.

Participating alumni include Steffanie Pinner, Carmen Lugo, Rikki Rhodes Gilbert, Dustin Templin, Tessa Stockstill, Jennifer Emerson, Lucy Ellen Landry Cummings, Dave Perez, Elizabeth Huffmaster, Danielle Wagner, Ashley Nudo as well as instructors Sandra Halat, Joely Corban and Cecily Cummings. The exhibit will be on display until March 24.

Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. Details: 897-3909.

Mary C. plans exhibit, production on Tuesday

The Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center, 1600 Government St., Ocean Springs, will host an exhibition titled "Art by Mississippi Women" beginning Tuesday through April 23. The exhibition will contain about 65 works from women artists across Mississippi. On Tuesday, the Albert Duckett Gallery will feature a day of activities and reception at 5:30-7 p.m.

Following the reception is "Love, Loss and What I Wore," a satiric look at women that will be presented by Nancy Wilson, Carolyn Martin, Ravin Floyd Nettles, Sandra Barnes, Stacy Howell, Judy Madden and Gloria Gaines, all of Ocean Springs.

"Love, Loss and What I Wore" is a theatre piece that women of all ages can identify with. This show is intended for a mature audience due to adult language. Cost: $12 nonmembers and $10 members.

Gallery 782 plans jewelry class on Saturday in Biloxi

A sterling silver jewelry class will be held at Gallery 782, 782 Water St., Biloxi, by Julie Boudreaux on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The participants will be able to make two to three pairs of earrings while the Boudreaux shows the class how to create earrings.
