King cake isn’t just a cake anymore. Consider: King cake doughnuts. King cake cheesecake. Even king cake vodka.

For a very limited time — Friday and Saturday, to be exact — Chandeleur Island Brewing Company in Gulfport will offer King Cake Beer on tap in the taproom.

Excuse me. King Cake Beer? According to the microbrewery’s Facebook page, there is literally king cake in the beer.

“We put some of the delicious cakes from Le Bakery in our tanks and aged some beer on them for a few days. The result is liquid alcoholic King Cake,” the brewery posted on the page.

The timing is perfect for downtown Gulfport, as the Krewe of Gemini’s Day Parade rolls at 2 p.m. Saturday, and the brewery is right on the parade route. To sweeten the offer, representatives from the famous Vietnamese-owned Biloxi bakery will be offering samples of their king cake in the taproom during the parade.

Chandeleur cautions the curious that supplies are limited, and “once it’s gone, you’ll have to wait until next year to get a taste.”

Sun Herald reporters taste test various king cake flavored items including a smoothie, coffee, ice cream and a special treat.

Chandeleur’s regular taproom hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to midnight Friday, 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
