Like the Alabama song says, “You work a 40-hour week for a living just to send it on down the line.” And although the workweek for many is now 50-60 hours a week, it’s time to once again salute the American worker with the annual Labor Day holiday, y’all.

And like any weekend on the Coast, there are plenty of things to do. But this weekend is extra special because you get to throw football in the mix. As is the norm these days, there are several “mini-bowl” games this weekend. We’re talking LSU and Wisconsin, Alabama and Southern Cal., Auburn and Clemson, Ole Miss and Florida State, Notre Dame and Texas and Oklahoma and Houston.

New Orleans favorites Amanda Shaw and Flow Tribe will close out the Ocean Springs Live Music series with a free show Saturday at Rosetti Park in downtown Ocean Springs. Blackwater Brass hit the stage at 4:30 p.m.

Instrumentalist Kenny G will be at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino on Friday at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $40 and a few are still available at Ticketmaster.com.

Motown’s finest rolls into Biloxi on Friday when The Temptations and the Four Tops hit the IP Casino Resort at 8 p.m. Tickets are scarce, but you can always check Ticketmaster.com to see what is available.

Here is your Labor Day playlist featuring songs by Jennifer Nettles, Johnny Paycheck and the Stones.
