The National Flag Foundation is encouraging people across the nation to fly the American flag on July 4 at homes, businesses and communities and display red, white and blue lights to brighten porches, bridges and landmarks.

Several of the Coast casinos will be lit up in America’s colors and the Coast Coliseum and Convention Center in Biloxi will take the challenge to a new level when color-changing LED lights switch on for the first time and bathe the Coast Coliseum in patriotic colors. Its part of a project that also saw the installation of LED lights and cameras throughout the property and parking lots.

“The new facade lighting creates a vibrant visual identity for the Coliseum, while the enhanced parking lot lighting and security improvements help provide a safer and more enjoyable experience for our guests,” said Michelle Menningmann, assistant executive director.

Along with traditional barbecue, burgers and dogs, this year July 4 will be celebrated in all kinds of creative and colorful ways. Nothing But Bundt shops in D’Iberville and Gulfport are baking and decorating patriotic cakes while Yuengling beer is toasting 250 years of American independence and the brewery’s 197-year history by wrapping their cans in patriotic labels.

July 4 falls on a Saturday, providing a big weekend of parades. Patriotic music, fireworks and family fun, that actually starts a weekend early in South Mississippi. Traditional events, such as Our Lady of the Gulf Crab Fest returns July 3-5 in Bay St. Louis and the Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo July 2-5 in Gulfport, also return for the holiday weekend

June 27 — America250 Party in Pascagoula, at the downtown Flagship District, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Yankee Doodle Dog & Kid Parade at 10 a.m. Live music, family activities, patriotic fun.

June 27 — Long Beach 4th of July Jubilee from 9 a.m.-11 p.m. in downtown Long Beach. Local vendors 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Parade at 6 p.m. Block party from 7-11 p.m. Fireworks at 8:45 p.m.

June 27 — Golf Cart and Bicycle Parade ending at Poplarville Town Green. Patriotic music on the stage. Food trucks. I Spy a Hometown Hero scavenger hunt on the Town Green, coloring contest, storytelling, artisan vendors.

July 2 — Ocean Springs: 250 Block Party from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at downtown locations including the Ocean Springs Library, Walter Anderson Museum of Art (WAMA) and The Springs Hotel. Free grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, music, free arts and crafts projects for the whole family. Boy Scout Troop 249 will bury a time capsule in the library’s community garden.

July 3 — Diamondhead Celebration at the Noma Drive football field,. 7-10:30 p.m. Music by Jodi Compretta and the Baytown Groove, food and drink vendors, fireworks show.

July 3 — Stars, Stripes and Seafood at the Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum, 115 First St., Biloxi. Re-enactments from the five founding fathers of the seafood industry. Refreshments served. Free Admission. 5:30-7:30 p.m.

July 3-4 — Buccaneer State Park two day celebration with pool party, water slides and inflatables, live music, games, vendors, patriotic activities. $2 park entry fee. Waterpark admission is $21 for 48” tall and over and $15 for guests under 48”.

July 4 — Red, White & Biloxi celebration on the Biloxi Town Green on U.S. 90. Patriotic music tribute at 5 p.m., a dramatic presentation at 6 p.m, and at 7 p.m. Unfazed Showband takes the stage. Free admission. Arts and crafts vendors and food trucks. Kids can visit the Daughters of the American Revaluation booth to sign the Declaration of Independence, receive a copy and get a picture with a tricornered hat. Stay for the fireworks across the street at 9 p.m.

July 4 — Markhum Hotel celebration with a rooftop view of the Gulfport fireworks. 4-11 p.m. Music by Titus Gillard 6:30-10:30. Fireworks start at 8:45. $25 per person.

July 4 — 250 years of Pass Christian historical presentation and open house from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., with a continual presentation showcasing the town’s history from early 18th century to the present. Light refreshments will be served. Presentation also can be seen July 1-3. At Pass Christian Historical Society, 201 E. Scenic Dr.

July 17-19 — “Happy Birthday America! An Original Musical” at Main Street Methodist Church, 162 Main St., Bay St. Louis. A cast of adults and children tell the story of America with music, dance video, and theater. Admission is free. Get tickets here.

  • Biloxi — Fireworks begins at 9 p.m. and are set to patriotic music, broadcast on BOB 105.9. Best viewing spots are from Biloxi Lighthouse to Biloxi Bay Bridge. Fireworks-free zone, where personal fireworks can’t be used on the beach, is across from the fireworks launch barge at Deer Island.
