Bikin’ the Beach is back in South Mississippi and this year it’s moved to Long Beach, where Jeepin the Coast will follow later in May.

Harper McCaughan Town Green will be filled with motorcycle owners and their fans May 14-17 as Bikin’ the Beach organizers present free admission to the festival, concerts and stunt shows throughout the open and shaded area.

Last year’s inaugural event was the first weekend in June on the beach and at The Sanctuary in Biloxi.

The Sanctuary is again involved in the event, said owner Jason Stearman, even with the change of venue.

“Everything is at the town green starting tonight,” he said Thursday. “Long Beach is the friendly city and the mayor rolled out the red carpet for us,” he said. “I think we’re maybe here to stay.”

The opening ceremony is Thursday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. with the blessing of the bikes, vendors opening and live music from 6:30-9 p.m

Stearman said he’s expecting thousands of people over the weekend. He has about 40 food vendors to will provide all kinds of food, along with the local restaurants, plus a beer garden and retail vendors selling motorcycle supplies and accessories.

The schedule of events is packed for Friday and Saturday as Twealth Co. stunt shows rev up the crowd several times each day, along with bike shows, poker runs and live music. Sound competition with Sound Warz Saddle Bag Showdown is Friday from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday from 1-9 p.m.

The event ends Sunday with a church service on the main stage and final awards presentations.

Jeepin the Coast

Long Beach hosts the parade of antique and classic cars the first Monday of Cruisin’ The Coast in October and now is the headquarters for cyclists and jeep lovers as they head out to drive along the scenic beaches and discover seafood and other restaurants across South Mississippi.

The weekend after Memorial Day, Jeeps and their rows of little duckies in the windows, will take over Long Beach from May 27 to 31.

Jeep Central is at 517 Jeff Davis Avenue, the main street in Long Beach, and just like during Cruisin’ The Coast, the shined-up Jeeps will be parked in the downtown for spectators to admire.

The Jeeps and their equally colorful drivers and passengers will celebrate with drives on the sand beaches and with fireworks overhead on Friday night.

After Jeep scavenger hunts, poker runs and other fun on the busy schedule, the highlight of the event comes Saturday. A Mardi Gras Jeep parade rolls at 6 p.m. Saturday and kicks off the block part and concert in the streets from 7-10 p.m., with music by King of Neons.

Like Bikin’ and Cruisin’, Jeepin the Coast ends with a church service, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Long Beach Town Green, and awards.
