Pascagoula native Jimmy Buffett cancels South Carolina show amid pressing health issue
Singer Jimmy Buffett, who grew up in Pascagoula, was forced to cancel a show this week amid a pressing health issue.
According to the New York Post, Buffett had to “address some issues that needed immediate attention” as he canceled his Saturday show with his Coral Reefer band in Charleston, South Carolina.
On social media, Buffett said he was just back from the Bahamas when a stop in Boston for a check-up resulted in a trip to the hospital.
“Growing old is not for sissies, I promise you,” Buffett wrote on Twitter.
According to CBS News in Boston, the 76-year-old postponed tour dates at the end of 2022, citing health issues and a “brief hospitalization.”
Buffett was born in Pascagoula in 1946 and spent his early years on the Mississippi Gulf Coast before moving to Mobile.
The Historical Marker Database says “Buffett has numerous relatives in Pascagoula, and he has visited the city many times. After Hurricane Katrina he made significant contributions toward refurbishing the Pascagoula City Library. Buffett’s classic song, ‘The Pascagoula Run,’ speaks to his many visits to his hometown and the adventures he had” there.
In later years, Buffett was involved with the Margaritaville Casino in Biloxi that operated for a few years
