3 Mississippi singers go far on ‘American Idol’ and ‘The Voice.’ Who made it to finales?

The Magnolia State has been well represented on two of the most popular singing competition shows in the U.S.

Holly Brand, a former Miss Mississippi beauty pageant winner from Meridian, wowed “The Voice” coaches with her rendition of “Mississippi Girl” by Faith Hill in the blind auditions.

The 22-year-old made it far on Kelly Clarkson’s team, belting out whistle notes and country classics week after week.

Two men from Amory, Colin Stough and Zachariah Smith, impressed “American Idol” judges Katy Perry, Lionel Perry and Luke Bryan on every episode. Both made the top 5 on the ABC show.

The finales of “Idol” and NBC’s “The Voice” are coming up soon. Here’s which Mississippi singers are left in the competitions.

  • Colin Stough, 19, advanced to the “American Idol” Top 3 after his Disney night performances. He will try to capture America’s vote in the “Idol” finale against Megan Danielle and Iam Tongi.
  • Zachariah Smith was eliminated from “Idol” after Disney night. He made it to the Top 5.
  • Holly Brand made it to “The Voice” semi-finals and the Top 8 but was eliminated Monday night after performing a Reba McIntyre song. Brand was a frontrunner in the competition and Clarkson and Niall Horan both have said she had the potential to make it to the “Voice” finale or win the competition.

You can watch and vote for Stough in the “American Idol” finale on Sunday at 7 p.m. central.
