What to do on the Coast this weekend: Burger & beer fest, Cobia tourney, Sponge Bob, more
Music fans from South Mississippi will be heading for a day at the New Orleans Jazz Festival that runs from Friday, April 29 through May 5, and there are plenty of other music and events this weekend in South Mississippi.
Here is the schedule for the last weekend in April and the start of May:
Thursday — The Cult performs at Hard Rock Biloxi. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and show is at 8 p.m. Anyone under age 21 must be accompanied by someone over 30. Tickets start at $34.99.
Friday — Three Dog Night performs at IP Casino Biloxi at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $44.
Friday and Saturday — Earth, Wind & Fire performs at Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, Biloxi. Shows at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $90.95
Saturday — Jewelry & Arts Fair at the Mary C., 1600 Government St., Ocean Springs, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Presented by Mississippi Gulf Coast Gem & Mineral Society and will include sales of handmade jewelry and mineral specimens, art, sculpture, pottery and photographs.
Saturday — Premiere of XIII, a documentary on Apollo 13 by MSU Films at Infinity Science Center. Admission and free movie ticket includes Q &A session with Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise and Apollo 13 engineer Gilroy Chow. Also 10th anniversary celebration noon-2 p.m. Exit 2 of I-10.
Saturday — Bud & Burgers Outdoor Cooking Competition, 5-8 p.m. at L&N Depot Plaza, downtown Ocean Springs. Tickets are $15 for adults to sample contestants’ burgers and one beer, or $10 for those under age 21.
Saturday and Sunday— Gorenflo’s Cobia Tournament at Gorenflo Tackle Shop, 119 Beach Blvd., Biloxi. Scales are open 3-7 p.m. Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.
Sunday — Miss Aquarium Pageant at the Mississippi Aquarium, 2100 Beach Blvd., Gulfport. Categories for ages 0 to 18, with winners moving on to compete in Miss Magnolia State Pageant.
April 28-May 8 — “You Can’t Take it With You,” performed by Center Stage Theatre at 2670 Rue Palofox, Biloxi. Shows are Wednesday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday 2 at p.m. Tickets start at $22.50.
April 29-May 8 — “Sponge Bob the Musical,” presented by Wings at Lynn Meadows Discovery Center, 246 Dolan Ave., Gulfport. Shows at 7:d0 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15.
Tuesday, May 3 — Old McDonald’s Farm sand sculpture at Edgewater Mall, Biloxi. Sculptors begin work on a 75 ton sand sculpture inside the mall in front of JC Penney. Construction will continue through May 13 and the completed sand sculpture will be on display for visitors to see. Free
