What Coast Coliseum events and concerts are a go, postponed or canceled amid coronavirus
A great lineup of country, crawfish and rock ‘n’ roll was on the schedule at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum this spring before the coronavirus canceled every show.
Now, the schedule for the rest of the year is in question.
“All our postponed concerts from March and May rescheduled to the summer and fall of 2020,” Executive Director Matt McDonnell said in his report to the Coliseum Commission this week.
The good news is none of those five shows — Mercy Me, KISS, Chris Stapleton, Martin Lawrence or Reba — have canceled, he said. They all rescheduled for later this year, and if those shows can’t go on because of the coronavirus, he said, all have secured secondary dates to play Biloxi in 2021.
What’s not looking so good this year is family entertainment at the Coliseum.
Fall and winter typically bring Disney and ice shows to the Coliseum, but McDonnell said the family shows have canceled for 2020.
The COVID-19 pandemic also canceled the annual Crawfish Festival with its rides and games in April.
So far, the South Mississippi Summer Fair is tentatively on the schedule for June, along with Scrapin’ The Coast in June and Cruisin’ The Coast in October.
McDonnell said an outdoor event with carnival rides could be scheduled in November, but likely all events are up in the air depending on conditions.
He is optimistic enough to call the staff back to work on Monday to prepare for whatever is to come this year.
“While we will continue to maintain social distancing and all necessary sanitary guidelines and protocols,” he said, “there is plenty of work projects for the team to come back and get done.”
