For Hallmark Channel movie fans, this is the most wonderful time of the year.
Countdown to Christmas, the family-friendly channel’s annual holiday movie extravaganza, starts this weekend, with the orange and black of Halloween still going strong.
The 2017 season starts at 1 p.m. Friday with “A Royal Christmas,” starring Lacey Chabert, Stephen Hagan and Jane Seymour. Fun fact: Chabert, a regular in Hallmark Channel films, was born in 1982 in Purvis and is 5 feet, 3 inches tall. Her father, Tony Chabert, is of Cajun, Sicilian and English descent and worked as a maintenance operations representative for an oil company.
The premiere for the channel’s first new Christmas movie of the season, “Marry Me at Christmas,” is at 7 p.m. Saturday. It stars Rachel Skarsten, Emily Tennant and Trevor Donovan. A bridal boutique owner finds out she’ll be working closely with her celebrity crush, the brother of one of her bridal customers.
Sister channel Hallmark Movies & Mysteries also gets in the festive spirit with The Most Wonderful Movies of Christmas; nonstop holiday viewing begins at 5 p.m. Friday. This channel’s first holiday premiere is at 8 p.m. Sunday, with “Home for Christmas Day,” starring Catherine Bell and Victor Webster. A woman falls in love with an active-duty soldier, and her worried mother tries to steer her away from the long-distance romance.
Altogether, both Hallmark channels will air 33 new Christmas movies. That’s 21 on the Hallmark Channel and 12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
