Toast to the Coast roars ’20s-style into the Pass

On Friday night, the 34th annual Toast to the Coast will bring the Roaring ’20s to life in Pass Christian with dancing, dining and an extensive and unique array of auction items.

Toast to the Coast is held 7 p.m. Friday until 1 a.m. at the Jan van Meerveld family home, 635 East Scenic Drive, Pass Christian.

Melissa Brown, director of development and marketing with Coast Episcopal, said this year’s “Roaring ’20s” theme should inspire colorful attire.

“It will be glad rags and black-tie optional, but definitely get dolled up. There will be Gatsby, maybe some tuxedos and feathers and flappers. It’s an elegant evening,” Brown said.

The band Rewind out of Baton Rouge will play until 1 a.m. Brown said to expect period pieces from the ’20s and lots of music that will get people moving on the dance floor.

Along with a live auction at the event, a silent auction is already underway online and it allows bids through cell phones and by proxy.

Some of the most sought-after items are a black Labrador puppy and a set of diamond hoop earrings valued at $3,000.

For sports fanatics there are a Saints-Jets ticket package, helmets from Ole Miss and Mississippi State and footballs autographed by Nick Saban and Drew Brees.

The 18 getaways up for bid include Mardi Gras in the North Carolina mountains, an opportunity to be governor for a day in Jackson, a foodie tour of New York, a Miss Mississippi Pageant weekend and one night out for eight in the Kiln.

The event is the primary fundraiser for Coast Episcopal. It also advances education in the arts through their Children in the Arts program. Artwork chosen from grade school students along the Coast are displayed during the event.

The juried competition gives cash prizes to winners in each grade. Artists also may attend an art workshop led by two local artists.

Tickets are $100 per person and are available online at www.thetoasttothecoast.com.

A patron party will be held at 6 p.m.

Complimentary parking and shuttle service will be offered at Trinity Church, 125 Church Ave., Pass Christian.
