The Mississippi Coast Coliseum will be filled with laughter Saturday night for the Summer Comedy Jam.
The show features headliner Michael Blackson (“Next Friday,” “Meet the Blacks”) and will be emceed by DC Young Fly, the co-host of “Wild N’ Out” with Nick Cannon.
Blackson is known as the “African King of Comedy.” He has appeared on BET, HBO and on TV shows such as “30 Rock.”
“Michael Blackson is an internally-known comedy star,” said Derrian Burns, who is promoting the show along with former Gulfport council candidate Maurice Bryant. “DC Young Fly is also a huge YouTube sensation — the doors open at 7:30 and we will get the pre-show party going then.”
Burns said the show will also feature some local talent, as well.
“We also have some local comics like Comedian Whoodi, who is out of Hattiesburg,” he said.
Saturday’s show is the latest venture at the Coliseum for Burns and Bryant, who also are the promoters for Biloxi Black Beach Weekend, one of the largest tourism events on the Coast. The festival is held in April at the Coliseum.
“We wanted to bring something to a different audience than our Black Spring Break event,” Burns said. “With all of the bad news that we hear on a daily basis, this will give people an opportunity to see a big comedy show and just enjoy themselves.”
