When I heard that Charlton Heston had died I pulled out the box in the back of the closet where the thick books full of my family's life stories reside.
It is not necessary to talk about what Katrina did to the Mississippi Coast, because every person who lived here - man, woman or child - has a point of reference. We remember so vividly the world we used to live in, and we cannot ignore the new world that Katrina created on that awful August day.
