Brett Favre's arrival with the New York Jets changes the NFL landscape in that city considerably.
The league's two teams now have two Mississippi quarterbacks, even if Eli Manning actually grew up in New Orleans.
Manning, the New York Giants' fifth-year quarterback, guided his team to an improbable Super Bowl victory in February. The former Ole Miss star outdueled Favre and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC championship game, the Giants' third straight road playoff victory on their way to the Super Bowl.
Favre nearly went to the Jets in the 1991 NFL Draft, but they were beaten to the punch by the Atlanta Falcons with the 33rd pick overall that year. Ron Wolf was the Jets' general manager in those days, before moving to the Packers the next year, when he made the trade for Favre.
In fact, Mississippi has a long lineage with New York professional quarterbacks over the years.
The late Charlie Conerly spent 13 distinguished years with the Giants, leading them to the NFL championship game three times, including a victory in that game in 1956.
