BILOXI — The Biloxi Indians look at the 2009 season and wonder ‘what if?’

In three of the games that they lost, the 3-7 Indians were leading at halftime. Against Harrison Central, they trailed by a touchdown at halftime.

Biloxi has a chance to redeem its season Friday night at 7:20 when they entertain archrival Gulfport, which at 5-5 is looking for a winning season.

Biloxi has not lost to Gulfport in its new campus stadium, on the artificial turf.

The two schools have split their last four games.

The Biloxi seniors say they are ready for the challenge.

“This game means everything to me,’’ Biloxi senior offensive guard James Demoruelle said.

“The rivalry is big for the school, city, team, coaches… the whole community. It would mean a lot to end my high school football career with a win against Gulfport.’’

Biloxi running back Travoris Robinson has a shot at a 1,000-yard rushing campaign, having gained 953 yards on 172 carries (5.54 yards per carry).

“Travoris is a great running back, one of the best Biloxi’s had in a while,’’ Demoruelle said. “He can run through anything we can give him.

“That’s our job. To give him a great hole so he has the vision to run through it. If we do well, he does well.’’

Senior offensive lineman Harry Moskowitz agrees that this is going to be a war up front.

“We need to hit them in the mouth, open some holes and see what happens,’’ Moskowitz said. “It starts in the trenches, that’s where the game is won. We need to just let Travoris and Justin (Gibson) do their thing.’’

The game will be televised and there will be our special events surrounding the game like the JumboTron, pyrotechnics and skydivers.

“We’re playing our biggest rivalry team,’’ tight end Sean Ballough said. “It should be a heated game. There is buzz around the school with the TV cameras and stuff going on during the week.’’
