Dual-threat quarterback Jared Sparks of Geismar, La., told the Sun Herald Tuesday that he has verbally committed to play football at Southern Miss.
Sparks pointed to the coaching staff as the reason for his early commitment.
"I have a great relationship with the coaching staff there," Sparks said. "It's a good fit."
Sparks, who is entering his senior season at Dutchtown High School, also holds a scholarship offer from Grambling State.
Dutchtown has produced some of the top football talent in Louisiana over the last decade, including Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy, San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid and New York Giants safety Landon Collins.
The Hudl.com page for Sparks lists him at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds with a 40-yard dash time of 4.60 seconds.
