Mississippi State and Ole Miss were both awarded bids to major bowl games on Sunday by the College Football Playoff selection committee.
The final weeks of the season didn't go quite as planned for both schools, but they will land on their feet in the bowl season.
No. 7 Mississippi State (10-2) will take on No. 12 Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. on Dec. 31 in the Capital One Orange Bowl at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.
No. 9 Ole Miss (9-3) will play No. 6 TCU at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 31 in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
The Rebels and Bulldogs both had their rankings improve over the weekend despite sitting and watching while most conferences played their championship games. MSU and Ole Miss both moved up three spots in the College Football Playoff rankings.
Ole Miss and TCU have played five times before with the Rebels winning four games.
MSU and Georgia Tech have played four times with the Yellow Jackets winning all four contests.
