Southern Miss redshirt senior Dasman McCullum received an award Monday for his big performance in Saturday's 21-20 victory over Appalachian State.
McCullum was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after registering a career-best 10 tackles and blocking an ASU extra point with 6 seconds remaining to preserve the USM win.
He also stripped a fumble from ASU running back Marcus Cox at the USM 7 and returned it 29 yards. He could have gone the distance for the touchdown, but stumbled over a teammate.
This marks the first time a USM player has been named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week since former teammate cornerback Marquese Wheaton won it on Oct. 24, 2011.
