Former Pascagoula baseball star Joey Butler will continue his professional baseball career in Japan, NBC Sports reported Friday.
Butler played in six games this season for the Cardinals, not registering a hit in five at-bats.
Butler was demoted to Triple-A earlier this week, but now the Cardinals have decided to sell him to the Orix Buffaloes.
The report said that St. Louis will get cash in return for the 28-year-old outfielder.
Butler made it to the Majors for the first time last year with the Texas Rangers, where he batted .333 in 12 at-bats.
He was batting .360 in 86 at-bats at Triple-A Memphis this year before being promoted to the Cardinals.
Butler, who played at the University of New Orleans, has played at the Triple-A level or higher since 2011.
