Speculation has swirled throughout this season that the New Orleans Saints could be coming to the end of the most successful era in franchise history.
Both Sean Payton and Drew Brees, the two men most associated with that era, have both been rumored to possibly move in the offseason, Payton as a coaching target and Brees as a potential cap casualty given his $30 million cap figure next year. The NFL Network reported Sunday morning that Brees would have to take a hometown discount to stay.
Brees doesn’t see either himself or Payton leaving this offseason.
“No, I don’t,” Brees said in an appearance on NFL Network. “I think a plan was put in place throughout last offseason as to how we were going to build the foundation to make a run at it in the future, and I think that includes new faces, that includes new players that I think will all come together.”
New Orleans (6-9) has already gone through plenty of overhaul, shaking up the front office, changing defensive coordinators and trading away several offensive pieces in order to start building a foundation.
