The Shuckers picked up a 4-2 win over the Birmingham Barons on Saturday to take a 2-0 lead in the five-game series at MGM Park.
Shortstop Gabriel Noriega was impressive in his debut with the Shuckers after signing a minor league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers. He was the only Biloxi player with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a game high of three RBIs. He hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to give Biloxi a 3-1 lead.
Adrian Houser had a strong return from the disabled list for the Shuckers, earning the win to improve to 3-5. He allowed no earned runs on four hits in seven innings, striking out eight and walking one.
Stephen Kohlscheen picked up the save, giving up one run on three hits in the ninth inning.
The Barons out-hit Biloxi, 9-5, but left eight men on base.
Jordan Guerrero was the losing pitcher for Birmingham, giving up three runs on four hits in six innings. He struck out three and walked one.
The Shuckers will play Birmingham at 5:10 p.m. on Sunday in game three of the series at MGM Park.
