Biloxi Shuckers looking for mascot, other positions at job fair
This will be the first full season for the Biloxi Shuckers at MGM Park, and a job fair on Feb. 20 will help assemble a supporting cast -- including people to be the mascot and to work in the new Kids Zone.
The job fair is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the stadium in downtown Biloxi. Most of the games are held in the evening -- during the week and on weekends -- and the team said those who are hired must be able to work all home games and additional events as needed at MGM Park and be able to stand outdoors for long periods of time.
Interviews during the job fair will be conducted in the order applicants arrive and all who are at the stadium before 12:30 p.m. are guaranteed an interview. Applicants should bring a resume and dress for a job interview.
The Shuckers are looking for outgoing people for an on-field emcee and entertainment staff, who will conduct the on-field games with spectators and go on public appearances.
"This year we're trying to get out and go to a lot of schools," Harris said.
Going with them will be the team's new mascot, which the Shuckers expect to debut in late March during a public reveal. Two people are usually hired for this position.
Also new this year -- but with details yet to be announced -- will be a Kids Zone at the stadium, Harris said, and workers are needed to staff it.
Among the other jobs available are people to sell and take tickets, ushers, access and control personnel, grounds crew and concession workers.
Interviews for part-time food and hospitality jobs for the season will be conducted during the job fair by Spectra Food & Hospitality. Positions open are suite attendants, catering servers, concession stand supervisors, suite pantry cooks, experienced prep and line cooks, experienced grill and fry cooks, kitchen prep, kitchen steward, experienced bartenders and warehouse workers.
The Shuckers return to MGM Park for an exhibition game against their parent club, the Milwaukee Brewers, on April 2 and Harris said tickers are still available. The Shuckers will play an exhibition game against Jackson State April 4, and between those events and the season opener on April 7 will take part in fan events to introduce the new players to the community.
Last year MGM Park didn't open until June, and this year the Shuckers will have a full season of promotions.
"Every single Saturday night we'll have fireworks," Harris said, along with one Friday, May 13. They plan bobble heads and other giveaways, about twice the amount of merchandise that was available last year in the team store and possibly some new food choices to go with the fan favorites.
While the team reports for spring training in Arizona the first week in March, fans can get ready for the season by purchasing season tickets, mini packages and individual tickets at biloxishuckers.com, ticketmaster.com or at 233-3465. Tickets for the Brewers' game also are available at 800-745-3000.
