PEARL, MS -- After delays the past two nights, the skies dried up and allowed the Mississippi Braves and Biloxi Shuckers to start on time in game three of a five-game series at Trustmark Park. Biloxi defeated the M-Braves 3-0 to extend its South Division lead to 5.5 games over the Braves.
Mississippi (32-29) managed just four hits while Biloxi (38-24) plated three runs on 10 hits. Kyle Wren, Tyrone Taylor and Parker Berberet each collected two-hits at the plate for Biloxi. David Rohm was the lone M-Brave with a multi-hit game.
Berberet led off the top of the fifth for Biloxi with a base hit to center field. He took second on a sacrifice bunt, and Kyle Wren singled to put runners at the corners with one out. Nathan Orf then delivered a sacrifice fly to left, giving the Shuckers a 1-0 lead.
In the eighth, Orf reached on an error by the shortstop and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Michael Reed then delivered a RBI-single to center field, extending Biloxi's lead to 2-0. Reed swiped second and third base before coming in to score on a Taylor single to center, making it 3-0.
Hobbs Johnson (4-3) tossed seven shutout innings for Biloxi, giving up just three hits and a walk. He struck out eight batters and picked up the win. Mike Strong (S, 3) came on to work the final two frames and notch the save.
